This aspect of Apollo - as restraining and averting evil and harm - seems to me what at the least public policy should be concerned with: the avoidance of harm and the protection of those least able to protect themselves. This role of Apollo’s is illustrated in the tale of Orestes who, obligated to avenge his father Agamemnon, is tried for matricide but defended by Apollo as depicted in the vase painting above.

Concerned as I am about things like human rights, economic justice, enlightenment, and progress, I take quite an interest in politics at home in the United States as well as throughout the world.
